R.O.P. - COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING
Grades 11-12 1 Year
This course is offered on the El Molino campus. Students may, after
mastering the basics of size and shape description, opt to focus on
mechanical, civil engineering and/or residential and stage craft
architectural drafting. The student will receive training on an PC
machine using the AutoCAD 2000 software and 3D-Studio MAX 4.0 software.
The learning units are sequenced and adjusted by the instructor for the
correct level of difficulty at the pace of the student.
Expectations: Each student is expected to be an individual learner who
will be required to think, make decisions and learn by contracting with
instructor, as to what will be done, how it will be done and when it
will be done.
PREREQUISITE: Instructors approval
R.O.P. COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Grades 11-12 1 Year
This class helps students learn programs that are commonly used in the
business world. Students may select the programs they are interested in
and work on them in a self-directed environment. Programs available to
select from include Keyboarding, Office 2000 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access) and PhotoShop 6.0. The individualized nature of the class
permits each student to develop skills at hi/her own pace; therefore,
the length of time required to complete each unit will vary. This class
may be taken for two years.
R.O.P FOODS AND NUTRITION
Age 16 and over 1 Year
ROP Foods and Nutrition is open to students 16 years old and over.
Students develop an understanding of the relationship of food to health
and the concept of teamwork is emphasized throughout the course.
Industry standards for safety and cleanliness in food preparation are
taught and reinforced in lab work. Students develop skill in the
planning and preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, along
with learning the use of seasonal foods, and the creation of desserts
and snacks. Cooking at home is required and involvement in Community
Service catering events is encouraged. Lab Fee $40.00/year.
R.O.P. CULINARY ARTS
Grades 11-12 1 Year
Foods and Nutrition, Culinary Arts, and Baking and Pastry Arts will
complete the Culinary Arts career path preparation for the college
level articulation requirements. Culinary Arts will focus on the
preparation of cold items such as salads and appetizers, as well as hot
items such as meats, poultry, and vegetables. Baking and Pastry Arts
would focus on breads and desserts.
R.O.P. BAKING AND PASTRY ARTS
Grades 11-12 1 Year
Baking and Pastry Arts is a one-year course in the Culinary Arts Career
Path which focuses on breads and desserts. Student will be introduced
to professional baking methods and commercial baking equipment. Course
content includes yeast breads, quick breads, decorated cakes,
chocolate, and plated desserts.
PREREQUISITES: Foods and nutrition and instructor approval.
Electronic Communications
INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATIONS, COMPUTERS, AND MEDIA (P) *
Grades 9-10 1 Year
Beginning in 2001-2002, this becomes a college preparatory course. In
this class, students will learn the major programs and skills necessary
to pursue careers in electronic communications in high school, college
and business. These skills include videography, digital photography,
audio engineering, keyboarding, word processing, databases,
spreadsheets, graphics, telecommunications, web design and programming.
The programs include ClarisWorks, Dream Weaver, Microsoft Office,
especially PowerPoint, Imorie, Adobe PhotoShop, and Adobe PageMaker.
PREREQUISITE: Consent of the instructor.
ROP Digital Filmmaking *
Grades 10-12 1 Year Broadcasting
This course is centered around the production of multi-media
presentations, including animations, and videos. The core of the course
will be the planning, production, editing and presentation of various
media productions. This will be done primarily through the use of
advanced computer techniques.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Introduction to Communication, Media and
Computers with a grade of C or better.
ROP Advanced Media/Broadcasting
The courses main focus is the produce the Daily Bulletin which is
broadcast every day to every classroom. It is also up on the school
website.
ROP WEB DESIGN: ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING ON THE WORLDWIDE WEB *
Grades 10-12 1 Year
Students will learn how to design and publish pages for the Worldwide
Web that include text, graphics, animation, video, and audio. They will
learn the fundamentals of HTML code, as well as the available WYSIWYG
(what-you-see-is-what-you-get) programs that make web page development
easy for both Macintosh and PC platforms. They will lean how to
organize an overall web site effectively. Each student will become
responsible for a particular department, course, club or project at the
school and for collecting, organizing and producing the web page for
that area. Students will also report on the latest news stories
affecting the school and the community so that the information can be
posted on our web site. They will also be given the opportunity to
develop their own pages designed with their individual interests and
expertise in mind. The object of the course is for students to learn
how to provide reliable information and creative projects for the rest
of the world to see and to use.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Introduction to Communication, Media and
Computers with a grade of C or better.
*Fulfills either a Fine Arts or a Practical Arts requirement.

dinner and to work cooperatively with others. A $20.00 shop card is
recommended o cover the cost of food.

able to accomplish the course work at the 70% level.

Engineering and Skilled Trades
TECHNOLOGY I
Grades 9-10 (Students in Grade 11 may request permission to take this
class) 1 Year
This is a “hands-on” basic foundation course for those students
interested in engineering, construction and related skilled trades
careers. The course content will utilize individual and small group
projects, use of hand tools and power equipment, experiments and
problem solving techniques, coupled with lecture, demonstrations and
media presentations. Through this “hands-on” approach the course will
provide opportunities for the student to understand and evaluate
different career options. The course provides for the student who plans
to continue a formal education at the junior college, a 4-year college,
university or technical school and for those who will seek employment
immediately after high school by way of an apprenticeship and/or “on
the job training.” In addition students will be given an opportunity to
indirectly improve their academic strengths and skills in reading,
writing, speaking, listening, calculating, learning and critical
thinking by involvement in the above laboratory activities.
PURPOSE: A combined focus to develop a foundation and begin preparing
the student to develop to their greatest potential in reaching their
eventual ultimate career goal. Responsibility and accountability along
with an understanding and appreciation of the basic values that are the
underpinning of our society will be stressed.
STAGE CRAFT TECHNOLOGY
Grades 10-12 1 Year
This course is designed to prepare students for theater, stage and
movie production technology. Students who have completed a technology
course and want to pursue a career path in stagecraft technology should
take this course. It is coordinated with the drama program and supports
the career path for theater and drama production. This course lends the
aspects of technology with acting, math, science and set construction.
This course will emphasize safety, lighting, sound and construction for
the performing arts.
PREREQUISITE: Students must submit an application and have completed an
Engineering Technology course or Algebra I (completed or enrolled
concurrently is recommended.) Exceptions will be considered on an
individual basis.
DRAFTING LAB
Grades 9-10 1 Sem./1 Year
This is an individualized course and may be repeated. Through the use
of a pretest system, the instructor will diagnose and prescribe the
student’s appropriate entry performance level. Depending upon the
ability level and interest of the students, it is possible to have
students in the same class working on learning units representing the
entire course content. Students may, after mastering the basics of size
and shape description, opt to focus on the advanced work preparing them
for the ROP computer aided drafting and/or the 2 + 2 course at the
Santa Rosa Junior College. This advanced work will entail mechanical
engineering, civil engineering, technical illustration, architectural
drafting or stagecraft.
Expectations: Each student is expected to learn, think and make
decisions by contracting with the instructor, as to what will be done,
how it will be done, and when it will be done. Each student will be
required to supply some basic drawing equipment and supplies.
WOOD I
Grades 9-12 1 Year
This course is designed to acquaint students who have little or no
woodworking construction experience. Students will construct assigned
projects and at least one project of their own choice. Students need to
cover the cost of construction materials. Students are evaluated
according to the Woodworking Standards-of-Expectation in Attitude,
Safety, and Performance.
WOOD LABORATORY
Grades 9-12 1 Sem./1 Year
This course, which may be repeated, is intended for students interested
in developing advanced woodworking construction skills. Students are
expected to plan and construct furniture, cabinetry, or building
construction projects. Students need to cover the cost of construction
materials. Students are evaluated according to the Woodworking
Standards-of Expectation in Attitude, Safety, and Performance.
PREREQUISITE: Consent of the instructor.
