BASIC MATH
Grade 9 1 Year
This is a math review program geared for taking a student at whatever level he/she is and taking him/her as far as he/she can go. Every attempt will be made to individualize each student’s program. It is expected that a student will be able to demonstrate basic arithmetic skills with integers, fractions, decimals and percents.

BASIC MATH (TITLE 1)
Grade 9 1 Year
This course helps students master arithmetic skills with integers, fractions, decimals and percents. There is also work in probability and geometry and a lengthy introduction to basic algebra. Students will not only increase mathematical ability and confidence, but will also learn the skills needed for passing the Math Competency Test. A smaller class size and intensive one-on-one help from the teacher and aides make success happen in this class.

BASIC ALGEBRA
Grades 9-12 1 Year
This course is designed for the student who is in need of additional experience either to be successful in the college preparatory program or to function adequately in society upon graduation from high school. The course will emphasize problem solving and applications of mathematics in the areas of measurement, number sense, statistics, probability, algebra, geometry and logic. Students who demonstrate a thorough understanding of the course content may, with the recommendation of the instructor, enroll in Algebra I.

ALGEBRA I (P)
Grades 9-12 1 Year
This is the beginning course in the college preparatory sequence. It is designed to prepare the student for future courses in the program. Basic concepts are emphasized, and algebra is presented as a logical system. It is expected that a student will learn the properties of real numbers, solve first degree equations, be able to graph linear equations and solve systems of equations and quadratic equations.

BASIC GEOMETRY
Grades 10-12 1 Year
This course is designed for students who may have difficulty with formal proof, but who can still understand the basic structure of geometry. Its inductive approach covers all topics presented in the standard geometry course but without introducing structured proof. Students reach conclusions by experimenting and reasoning from given facts, and will develop a spatial visualization and knowledge of relationships of geometric elements.
PREREQUISITE: Grade “C” or better in Basic Algebra or Algebra I.

GEOMETRY (P)
Grades 10-12 1 Year
This course is designed to acquaint the student with the rigorous axiomatic system. The nature of proof and logical thought is the primary emphasis. Secondary, but almost equal, emphasis is put on the study of spatial relations which exist in our world. This is a college preparatory course. The student will understand the basic structure of geometry and develop a spatial visualization and knowledge of relationships and geometric elements. He/she will understand the inductive and deductive principles of reasoning and develop a working knowledge of coordinate geometry.
PREREQUISITE: Grade of “C” or better in Algebra I.

ALGEBRA II (P)
Grades 11-12 1 Year
Algebra II is closely related to the skills and ideas studied in Algebra I and there is a further development of these ideas and new ones. It deals with algebraic properties of the real number system, equations and inequalities of the first and second degree. The complex number system, conic sections, polynomials and higher order, and logarithms are introduced. This course is designed for the college preparatory student who wishes to meet the minimum math requirements for the University of California.
PREREQUISITE: Grade of “C” or better in Geometry.

TRIGONOMETRY (P)/ADVANCED MATH (P)
Grade 12 1 Year
This course will concentrate on the complete development of trigonometry concepts. These concepts will be applied toward the solution of right and oblique algebra and pre-calculus concepts and their applications. Trigonometry (P) will be taught in the fall semester and Advanced Math (P) will be taught in the spring semester.
PREREQUISITE: Grade of “C” or better in Algebra II.

ALGEBRA II/TRIGONOMETRY (P) (Acc.)
Grades 11-12 1 Year
Algebra II/Trigonometry is the extension of the basic concepts learned in Algebra I into more complex mathematical situations. New concepts are also introduced. The required concepts of colleges for the study of trigonometry are introduced and met during the second half of the course. The student will learn basic concepts of polynomials, factoring, linear equations and systems of equations. The student will gain a knowledge of functions and the working of logarithms. In Trigonometry exact values will be stressed in the study of the unit circle, radians and graphing of all functions. Students will solve oblique triangles and solve real world problems with the use of the Law of Sines and Cosines. The use of scientific calculators is encouraged. Algebra II (HP) will be taught in the fall semester and Trigonometry (HP) will be taught in the spring semester.
PREREQUSITE: Grade of “B” or better in Algebra I and Geometry and approval of the instructor.

PRE-CALCULUS (HP)
Grade 11 and 12 1 Year
This course is designed for the student who is planning to do additional work in mathematics in college. It is to help students make the transition to the study of higher mathematics with a minimum of trauma. The more complex concepts of Algebra II, Geometry and Trigonometry are reviewed. Concepts new to the student in the fields of analytic geometry, elementary calculus, statistics and probability are studied. The student will develop a knowledge of sequences, series, work, derivatives and be able to calculate elementary definite integrals. The use of scientific and graphing calculators is encouraged.
PREREQUISITE: Grade of “C” or better in Algebra II /Trigonometry (P) (Acc.),
Trigonometry (P)/Advanced Math (P), or approval of instructor.

CALCULUS AB (AP)
Grade 12 1 Year
This course is intended for students who have a thorough knowledge of college preparatory mathematics. The course is college level and is intended to provide the opportunity to complete the first semester of college calculus. The course is designed to provide an opportunity for the student to receive college credit and/or placement for courses he/she would normally take at the freshman level in college (such as Physics). The student will be expected to take the Calculus AP examination (AB Level) so as to seek college credit for the first semester of calculus in college or university. The use of graphing calculators is required.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Pre-Calculus with a grade of “C” or better.
