Before you ever begin to make a list of colleges and
universities you want to consider, you have to make sure you understand
yourself.
Why?
Because until you know who you are, how you learn, what motivates you
and what overwhelms you, you will not be able to effectively evaluate
whether or not a particular school makes sense for you.
There are more than 3500 colleges and universities in
the country. There is at least one out there that makes perfect sense for you.
* Did you know?
-
You will receive information from more than 250 colleges and
universities by the time you graduate.
- According to research done at Princeton University, a
student is no more likely to be a success or earn more money because
he/she graduates from an "Ivy League" institution than he/she is if
he/she graduates from the local state college. (See "The Worthless Ivy
League?" Robert Samuelson, Newsweek, Nov. 1, 1999)
- The vast majority (at least 75%) of college students change
their major at least once.
- With few exceptions, most professions do not require a specific
major at the undergraduate level. You can major in art and go to
Medical School. (Sample exceptions: Architecture, Engineering,
Accounting, Nursing, Athletic Training)
- Where you choose to go to college should make sense for you as a person and as a
student.
