Waiver – Participation in interscholastic athletics may substitute for up to one year of required physical education. Ninth grade physical education is required. A waiver may be granted only for courses after the ninth grade. Students will not receive credit for physical education by participation in athletics, but will receive a waiver from the requirement. A student may not waive more that one semester for any single sport. Participation in athletics during the ninth grade will not be applied towards this waiver.
Each student must meet competency standards in the area of mathematics, reading, English and written expression. Once a student meets one of the four standards, the student does not have to be tested again for that particular skill area.
Summer school classes are highly recommended for students who wish to develop competency in these required skills.
