College Planning Calendar


If you're in 9th or 10th grade...

  • Visit the College & Career Center. Meet your counselor! The School Counseling Department and the College and Career Center are here to assist you..
  • Make suitable decisions about your life
  • Assess your strengths and limitations
  • Choose courses that are right for you
  • Discover talents and abilities
  • Develop positive attitudes
  • Solve personal problems
  • Learn time management
  • Begin to look for leadership roles is clubs and actitivies
  • Plan your education
  • Decide on a career
  • Discuss tests that are appropriate for your grade level. 
  • Learn how to use the College & Career Center. Start exploring career areas that are of interest to you. Find out what courses you will need to help you toward your career goal.
  • Start taking self-assessments on-line or in the College & Career Center if you don't know what you want to do.
  • Develop good study habits and work hard at getting good grades. Your 9th and 10th grade record is part of your college application and should be treated seriously.
  • Explore school activities and get involved in those that interest you.
  • Build strong academic, mathematical and critical thinking skills by taking challenging courses.
  • Make a tentative four-year plan. (see your Guidance Counsleor)
  • Gain an understanding of high school graduation requirements and college entrance requirements (in the El Molino Student and Parent Handbook sent home each year) and on this website
  • Begin to document activities and involvements for a resume
  • Obtain a social security card if you do not already have one. Everyone should have a Social Security Number in order to apply for jobs, colleges, and financial aid, and to register for national tests.
  • If you are a sophomore, consider a summer course or pre-college program. These can give you a good preview of college life.
